Summary This position is located in the Health Resources and Services Administration, Health Systems Bureau, Division of Transplantation, Organs Transplantation Branch. The duty location for this position is in Rockville, MD and is not eligible for remote work.** Applicants please note : Additional selections may be made across the Department of Health and Human Services through this vacancy announcement.** Duties Nurse Consultants are a mission critical occupation for HRSA. These positions are critical in supporting Health Resources and Services Administration's nursing care and treatment for outpatient, specialty clinics, urgent care and/or emergency patients.As a Nurse Consultant, you serve the Organ Transplantation Branch, which supports the administration of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network and patient safety efforts.Your major duties and responsibilities include: Providing leadership, expert advice and consultation on a national basis specifically using expertise and knowledge in nursing, organ donation and transplantation, patient safety, public health, and specific issues and initiatives focusing on the optimal healthcare of all. Advising and recommending policy for the development and evaluation of the Branch organ donation and transplantation programmatic activities as they relate to the overall goals and objectives and work in collaboration with other Bureaus/Offices personnel to assure awareness and integration with other relevant Division, Bureau and Agency programs. Participating in the continuing evaluation of program objectives and accomplishments; providing advice on the need for new legislative authority including modifications to meet changing demands to strengthen, improve, and expand organ donation and transplantation programs; and providing authoritative advice and guidance in the day-to-day operation and execution of organ donation and transplantation programs, as well as patient safety initiatives. Participating in committees or task forces that develop new short and long-term goals, objectives, policies and plans that may have programmatic implications on the effective oversight of the OPTN or other organ donation and transplantation programs. Bringing such matters to the attention of the Branch Chief in an expeditious manner. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders (including government personnel, professional associations, and other public health entities) to assist in system improvements, identification of research, and training needs related to the goals and objectives of the Branch and Division. Must possess a Current, Active, Full, and Unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse - must submit documentation. One year probationary period may be required. To be creditable, an applicant's one full year of specialized experience must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for successful job performance . Examples of minimum qualifying specialized experience equal to the GS-13 level in the federal service include performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis: Conducting clinical transplantation and patient safety research aimed at improving organ donation and transplantation programs. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
