ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) creates and coordinates services that enhance the quality of life for Cambridge residents. Driven by the needs of residents, DHSP's extensive services and programs touch almost every sector in the city: from newborns to senior citizens, from school-aged children to homeless families, from non-profit organizations to local employers. The College Success Initiative (CSI) serves students from Cambridge Rindge and Latin School and adult learners from the Community Learning Center's Bridge to College program who are underrepresented in higher education. CSI is designed to support students to complete a post-secondary degree within 6 years and to coordinate a community of partners committed to the persistence of Cambridge students. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Program Assistant is a critical member of the CSI team. Reporting to the CSI Director, the Program Assistant will: Assist the CSI Director with administrative support for the CSI team. Support event planning, including scheduling, vendor selection, registering attendees, and other logistics. Work with the Director of CSI and DHSP Communications Manager to develop communication tools and social media content for CSI college students and alumni. Assist the CSI Director with data collection, entry, and reporting in support of CSI evaluation. Document CSI processes and practices. Support CSI Success Coaches with student programming. Provide support to CSI students as directed by the CSI Director. Work with the CSI Director to develop a network of CRLS CSI alumni. Actively engage in and support the Department's Race and Equity Initiative. Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent with some college experience Experience working with college students (traditional and adult) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and online communication, and ease with social media platforms. Strong time-management and organizational skills Ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population. Understanding of issues of academic achievement and college success for underserved student populations in high school and college. Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, in addition to Instagram. The City of Cambridge's workforce, like the community it serves, is diverse. Preferred QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree preferred Familiar with Constant Contact Familiar with Canva/Adobe Express Familiar with Instagram SUMMARY OF BENEFITS: Eligible for part-time sick leave accrual City employee commuter benefits (T-Pass reimbursement, Bluebikes membership, EZRide Shuttle membership) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, WORKING CONDITIONS, WORK FLEXIBILITY AND ACCOMODATIONS: Ability to access input and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to operate office equipment including copiers, printers, and scanners. Executes multiple tasks involving keyboarding, telephones, writing, bending, reaching, and lifting of books and boxes of large files and documents (up to 10 lbs.). Standard office environment, which includes fluorescent lighting and air conditioning. Moderate noise level, which can elevate with phone calls and walk-in members of the public. Ability to travel back and forth throughout the City. This position may be eligible for hybrid work under the City's Telework Policy, depending on operational needs.
